HEJ COFFEE, pronounced ‘hey’, means ‘hello’ in Swedish. Their journey began in Sweden, took shape in Bermondsey, and now thrives in Elephant & Castle and has its new roastery with us at the Bottle Factory . Founders Jeremy and Mathew have worked for over 20 years in coffee, but it wasn’t until Jeremy was on a coffee tour of Sweden that he found his coffee home. Inspired by the simplicity and efficiency of Scandi coffee culture, Jeremy loved how coffee worked as a social glue, bringing everyone together for the daily ‘fika’, or coffee-break ritual.
This ritual has been expanded as the HEJ team put on a celebration barbecue to celebrate they have began roasting at the Bottle Factory on Wednesday 4 June. It was amazing to see how the space is coming to life and to have the Fabrix team and our amazing Bottle Factory businesses along to the celebration. Great food, great company and we are looking forward to this exciting next chapter with HEJ as we bring back making to the Old Kent Road!
